Gardiner, Maine — May 4, 2007 – Blue Marble Geographics (www.bluemarblegeo.com) will be offering software demonstrations of the Geographic Transformer application during the upcoming 2007 American Society of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ASPRS) Conference in Tampa, FL. Georeferencing and reprojecting historical maps can effectively demonstrate how the Geographic Transformer can be used in practical research and educational situations. The demo will utilize a scanned map from the 1890’s, reference it to known control points, and reproject it to a known coordinate system. The coordinate information on the map requires referencing and the application of higher order polynomial equations to straighten the curves and distortions of paper stretch. Using modern map data containing known boundaries and natural landmarks, the map can be georeferenced and transformed to a valid projection, allowing the use of digitizing tools to resurrect lost location information.
