Hallowell, Maine — March 28, 2017 – Blue Marble Geographics (bluemarblegeo.com) is pleased to announce the immediate availability of version 7.3 of the GeoCalc Software Development Kit (SDK). This powerful toolkit allows developers to embed the world’s most comprehensive coordinate parameter database into their geospatial software, ensuring efficiency and precision in the application’s coordinate management and transformation processes. New and updated functionality in the 7.3 release includes a new interface for reading and writing Petrel CTL files, live datasource updates using the new GeoCalc Online Registry, and support for time-based coordinate transformations using Canadian Velocity grid files.
For over two decades, Blue Marble’s affordable, user-friendly GIS software has been meeting the needs of hundreds of thousands satisfied customers throughout the world. Users come from all industries including software, oil and gas, mining, civil engineering, surveying, and technology companies, as well as government departments and academic institutions.
Blue Marble’s GeoCalc engine is the recognized benchmark for efficient and accurate coordinate management. As the geodetic foundation of countless popular software titles, including Blue Marble’s Geographic Calculator, GeoCalc provides GIS, GPS, surveying, engineering, and mapping applications with the foremost coordinate transformation capabilities. The GeoCalc database offers access to over 12,000 coordinate system objects including linear and angular units, ellipsoids, geodetic datums, and coordinate reference systems. GeoCalc also contains advanced geomatic tools such as vertical datums, grid shifts, time-dependent coordinate transformation models (HTDP), and the ability to generate custom best-fit transformations and custom coordinate objects of any type.
Mirroring much of the new and upgraded functionality recently introduced with the release of Geographic Calculator 2016 Service Pack 2, the latest version of GeoCalc now includes the ability to export as well as import Petrel CTL databases. This allows users of Schlumberger’s Petrel software to quickly transfer coordinate system parameters from any application using the GeoCalc SDK. The GeoCalc datasource can now be continually updated using the new GeoCalc Geodetic Registry, a cloud-based searchable library of coordinate system specifications incorporating the latest EPSG definitions along with Blue Marble’s custom definitions.
Additional enhancements in the GeoCalc 7.3 release include a new time-based coordinate transformation for Canadian Velocity grid files; updated HTDP models for the latest WGS84 and NAD83 realizations; read and write support for Well Known Text 2, several new vertical models; and a new conversion preview dialog box for transformations and projections.
“At Blue Marble, we understand the importance of accuracy in location-based data management and processing,” stated Patrick Cunningham, Blue Marble President. “That is why we confidently build our own geodetic software using the same fundamental technology that we offer to our OEM partners. GeoCalc is recognized worldwide as the industry leader and with the release of version 7.3 and the new GeoCalc Geodetic Registry, we have raised the bar once again.”
