Blue Marble Speaks on High Accuracy GPS Data at 2011 Maine Municipal Technology Conference

Gardiner, Maine — Blue Marble Geographics (bluemarblegeo.com)was pleased to present at the 2011 Maine Municipal Technology Conference. Samuel Knight of Blue Marble presented a talk on High Accuracy GPS — Pitfalls of Post-Processing at the March 3rd conference held in Bangor, Maine. The conference, held at the Bangor Civic Center, was well attended by municipality representatives from around the state and highlighted the dramatic technological changes currently underway while trying to predict the impact on government services.

Knight, the Director of Product Management for Blue Marble, presented a talk focused on avoiding the variety of pit falls that a novice user can run into, which may significantly degrade of the quality of the GPS data they’ve collected. Issues covered included analysis of the current concepts relating to best practices with processing high accuracy data; datum transformations, vertical datums, and time-based coordinates. Blue Marble Geographics has been creating geographic software for many years, and has encountered the same challenges of accurately managing data that GIS users face every day.
