Blue Marble Announces release of Desktop 2.2 with new Support for DEMs

Gardiner, Maine — Blue Marble Geographics (bluemarblegeo.com) announces the release of Desktop 2.2 with Geographic Calculator 7.5 and Geographic Transformer 6.2. This release features support for raster Digital Elevation Models (DEM) like Digital Terrain Elevation Data (DTED) and USGS Spatial Data Transfer Standard (SDTS). The new Desktop version also includes enhanced batch file processing features, such as a new batch interface for point data conversions and the ability to use an unlimited number of Desktop jobs in a batch conversion. Blue Marble’s geospatial data manipulation and conversion solutions are used worldwide by thousands of GIS analysts at software companies, universities, oil and gas companies, civil engineering, surveying, technology, enterprise GIS groups, government and military organizations.

Blue Marble’s Geographic Calculator v7.5 will include support for the Alberta Township System legacy grids, versions 2.1-2.6, 3.1. 3.2 NAD27, 3.2 NAD83, and version 4.1. Users can convert single points or files of points between the ATS system and any of our many geodetic or projected coordinate systems. The Geographic Calculator has flexibility to read ATS strings in either Standard Survey or Unique Well Identifier order, and offsets can be measured either from the section corners or boundaries. Geographic Calculator v7.5 will have newly added options to work with non-standard road allowances as well. Other feature enhancements include an area calculation tool, workspace, project and job validation tool, new settings interface, and improved DGN support.

Geographic Transformer v6.2 upgrades will feature support for transformation of DEM (Digital Elevation Model) data for 3d transformations, with a built in hill-shading tool. The Desktop interface has been streamlined to facilitate setting up and running batches. This also enables an unlimited number of jobs to be run in a batch. The largest, most accurate and reliable coordinate transformation datasource will now reach out to include version 7.5 of the EPSG database. The application allows you to reference an image from either an existing reference file, or by using our popular and user-friendly “point-and-click” method with an already referenced image. You can save your work out in whatever file format you need as one image, a mosaic of images or smaller tiled pieces. Enhanced raster support capabilities through introduction of GDAL Reader-Writer reinforces the transformer capabilities and still is only raster tool available on the market that allows read and write to all of the major compression formats. With dockable windows, enhanced workflow tools and sixteen years of global use, Blue Marble will save you time and money on every project. One powerful package, one easy to use interface, come see why so many global companies rely on Blue Marble.

“We are very excited about this release of the Blue Marble Desktop,” stated Blue Marble President Patrick Cunningham. “We now have a very powerful ATS Grid transformation tool for our Canadian customers, and support for DEM file types, which we know will be of great use to our customers. The Blue Marble Desktop truly is the only all-in-one geospatial data conversion tool, that is both affordable and powerful.”
