Terrain Analysis
Global Mapper provides a number of tools for modifying and analyzing terrain data. There are also tools for calculating information from terrain data based on vector features, and creating vector features from terrain data.
Analysis methods for this type of data can also be applied to other raster data that contains values representing a measurement or phenomenon other than elevation, such as temperature, etc.
The Terrain Analysis Menu contains the following options.
- Combine/ Compare Terrain Layers
- Count Overlapping Raster/Terrain/View Shed Layers
- Create Curvature Grid from Terrain Layer(s)
- Create Elevation Grid from 3D Vector Data
- Calculate Relative Elevation Grid
- Elevation Grid QC
- Least Cost path Between Points
- Find Overlap Between Lidar/Raster/Terrain Layers
- Find Ridge Lines
- Generate Breaklines from Terrain Grid
- Create Contours (from Terrain Grid or Lidar)
- Generate Contours from TIN Areas
- Solar Shadow Calculations
- Create Watershed
- Measure Volume Between Surfaces
- Simulate Water Level Rise/ Flooding
- Terrain Painting
- Create Density Grid (Heat Map) from Point Data
Some of the available analysis options include:
- Find Overlap Between Lidar/Raster/Terrain Layers Create Contours (from Terrain Grid or Lidar)
- Find Ridge Lines
- Measure Volume Between Surfaces
- Create Watershed
- Calculating Cut-and-Fill Volumes for Area and Line Features
- VOLUME - Measure Volume (Cut and Fill)
- PILE VOLUMES - Calculate the Volume of Selected Piles
- Calculate Elevation / Slope Statistics for Selected Features
