Copying Features (Cut/Copy/Paste)

Occasionally you may wish to make copies of existing features or perhaps move features from one instance of Global Mapper to another. You can easily do this by first selecting the features, then either making a copy of those features (use Edit->Copy Selected Features to Clipboard menu command or Ctrl+C shortcut) or cutting those features to the clipboard (use Edit->Cut Selected Features to Clipboard menu command or Ctrl+X shortcut). Then, simply paste those features into any running instance of Global Mapper using either the Edit->Paste Features from Clipboard [Ctrl+V shortcut] or Edit->Paste Features from Clipboard (Keep Copy) [Ctrl+Shift+V shortcut], the latter of which keeps the features on the clipboard for additional pasting rather than wiping the clipboard clear.

Clipboard Functions

Copy Selected Features to Clipboard - Selecting this option or Ctrl+C on your keyboard will copy anything currently selected by your digitizer tool to your clipboard.

Cut Selected Features to Clipboard - Selecting this option or Ctrl+X on your keyboard will copy anything currently selected by your digitizer tool to your clipboard and, once it is pasted it will be deleted from the original layer/location.

Paste Features from Clipboard - Selecting this option or Ctrl+V on your keyboard will paste anything currently in your clipboard to the space specified. Pasting an item with this method will remove it from the clipboard.

Paste Features from Clipboard (Keep Copy) - Selecting this option or Ctrl+Shift+V on your keyboard will paste anything currently in your clipboard to the space specified. Pasting an item with this method will not remove it from the clipboard.

Copy and Paste Labels

You can also use the function to copy, cut, and paste labels. You must first create a separate Label Layer from a vector layer in the workspace.

Click on the Select Labels button on the toolbar. Select one label, or click and drag to select multiple labels, that would like to copy or cut.

Then go to Edit->Copy Selected Features to Clipboard menu command or Ctrl+C shortcut) or cutting those features to the clipboard (use Edit->Cut Selected Features to Clipboard menu command or Ctrl+X shortcut).

Then go to Edit->Paste Features from Clipboard [Ctrl+V shortcut] or Edit->Paste Features from Clipboard (Keep Copy) [Ctrl+Shift+V shortcut].

After doing the pasting command, choose any of the following options in the window from the drop down menu.

Paste to New Layer if Possible - features will be pasted back into the original label layer as label features.

Paste to New Layer (Append [COPY] to Original Name) - a new layer is created just for label features but layer name is same as original layer (with [COPY]) appended to it.

Paste to User Created Features Layer - label features are added to the User Created Features layer.

Select Layer to Paste To - a drop down menu appears allowing you to pick which layer to move the labels features to.

Create New Layer to Paste To - a window appears allowing you to enter a name for the layer which will solely contain the label features.

Select the raster layer you want to copy in the control center.

Then go to Edit Menu->Copy Selected Features to Clipboard [Ctrl+C shortcut]

A new duplicate raster layer will be created.
