System Requirements
Global Mapper:
Minimum | Recommended | |
CPU | Intel 8th generation (or newer) CPU or comparable CPU | Recent generation, high-performance multi-core CPU |
Memory | 8 GB | 16 GB |
Storage | 1.5 GB SSD, or HDD | SSD with sufficient space for data storage and processing |
GPU | Integrated graphics or dedicated GPU with support for OpenGL v4.5 | NVIDIA GeForce RTX 20 series (or newer) GPU or comparable workstation GPU |
Note: If installing Global Mapper virtual, cloud, or otherwise non-local instance of Windows all of the above Minimum System Requirements must be met. Licensing the application in such an environment requires a network license.
Note: In order to use the 3D viewer via remote desktop the licensed machine must have a workstation graphics card. Network licenses, and Single User Floating licenses issued after May 2020 support remote desktop access via RDP. Other capabilities of the software will work via RDP without a workstation graphics card.
Global Mapper Pro:
In addition to the above, further requirements and recommendations are listed below.
Minimum | Recommended | |
Memory | 8 GB | 16 GB |
Note: Global Mapper Pro requires an active license of Global Mapper standard to be installed on the same machine.
Pixels to Points:
Minimum | Recommended | |
Memory | 16 GB | 64 GB |
GPU | Integrated graphics or dedicated GPU with support for OpenGL v4.5 | NVIDIA GeForce RTX 20 series (or newer) GPU or comparable workstation GPU |
Note: Pixels to Points is included with Global Mapper Pro.
Insight and Learning Engine:
Minimum | Recommended | |
Memory | 16 GB | 32 GB |
GPU | Integrated graphics or dedicated GPU with support for CUDA 11.3 or newer | NVIDIA RTX 30 series (or newer) GPU with 24 GB memory or comparable workstation GPU |
Note: Downloading the Insight and Learning Engine will allow users to install all necessary models and support files. The download can be conducted via the Extra Downloads option during installation of Global Mapper, or from Configuration after the application is installed.
Network License Server Requirements
Here are the requirements for a network server hosting Global Mapper licenses.
- Operating System: Windows Server 2016, Windows Server 2019, Windows Server 2020, Windows Server 2022, Windows 8.1, Windows 10, Windows 11.
- The License utilities use on average between 7 - 10 MB of memory and minimal disc space.
- Network Communication: The license server needs to communicate with client machines on the network, either by opening the TCP/IP ports used by the licensing utilities (lmgrd.exe and bmgeo.exe) and specified in the license file, or by white-listing the license utilities directly. For more information see Network License Troubleshooting
Licensing tools can be set up on AWS or Azure. Please see Configuring Cloud/Virtual Machine Network License Server for additional information. We provide a Linux version of these tools as well. This is an IT intensive process and support for setting up such environments is not provided.
It is not recommended to run Global Mapper on the same machine as the network license server.
Virtual Machines
In order to run Global Mapper on a virtual machine, the application must be licensed through a Network License, and the virtual machine will need to be running Windows 10/Windows 11.

Internet Access
Global Mapper may be run without an internet connection. The following tools require an internet connection:
- Activating A Single User License Online
- Find Address / Geocoding
- Connect to Online Data
- Zoom To View in Google Earth
- Open Cloud Dataset
- Export to Cloud
- Search by EPSG Code in Projection Configuration or any projection dialog if the projection code is not included in the built-in or generated database.
- Most of the resources in the Help Menu
