Connect Selected Points to Selected Lines (Chainage)
The Connect Selected Points to Selected Lines (Chainage) option can be used to connect points to the nearest lines according to specified offset values.
Select the line and point features with the Digitizer tool, and choose Connect Selected Points to Selected Lines (Chainage) from Advanced Feature Creation in the Digitizer menu or context menu.
The Chainage Options dialogue appears (below).
Specify the start offset distance for the chainage. This value will be added to the calculated chainage. There is also an option to start chainage at end of line rather than beginning.
The new line will contain the following attributes:
CHAINAGE - Distance from the start of the line specified in LINE_NAME at which the new line intersects (plus any additional distance added from the dialog).
LINE_NAME - The line that the chainage was measured along.
LINE_LAYER - Name of the layer containing the line the chainage was measured along.
POINT_LAYER - Name of the layer containing the selecting point.
The original points will get the following new attributes:
DIST_FROM_LINE - How far away the point is from the line feature. This is also the length of the generated line.
CHAINAGE- Distance from the start of the selected line at which the point connects.
SIDE_OF_LINE - L or R side of the line starting from the first vertex.
