Metadata

Metadata is additional information about a data file, which usually accompanies that data in a separate file. This can include information like the collection or creation of the data, modifications that have been made to it, additional information about the structure of the data, etc.

Geographic Calculator allows users to view, create, and edit metadata. Metadata is saved as a separate file along with a data file, and includes information about the data such as descriptions, distribution information, spatial reference information, etc. Descriptive information can be entered and edited manually. Users are also able to specify default text values for individual components of the metadata.
