Gardiner, Maine — August 4, 2006 – Blue Marble Geographics (www.bluemarblegeo.com) announces an update to their Geographic Calculator software application that is certain to improve GIS data management efficiency. Blue Marble’s coordinate conversion technology is used worldwide by thousands of GIS analysts at software companies, universities, oil and gas companies, civil engineering, surveying, technology, enterprise GIS groups, government and military organizations. The Geographic Calculator is known for its easy-to-use interface that allows the user to perform simple coordinate transformations while at the same time allowing for very elaborate in-depth conversions.
The Geographic Calculator is the defacto standard for coordinate conversion software in today’s GIS industry. This new release adds a number of great features, including FlexLM-based network licensing, which is important for large enterprises that need an easy to use, yet secure licensing model. Calculator 6.3 also features support for the Earth Geopotential Model of 1996 (EGM96), which has been known to cause problems when implemented incorrectly in other software. Batch file processing now allows the user to convert points within multiple point data files for maximum efficiency. Other new definitions include OSTN02 and Molodensky-Badekas 10 parameter datum transformation methods. Calculator 6.3 now contains enhanced unit display settings, specifically for Packed DMS definitions (Packed DMS. and Packed DM.) with a new easy-to-use central implementation schema. There are also new pre-defined text schemes for CSV, TSV, and SEG formats. Users can also save point database files as ESRI shape files. Many other features and enhancements have been added to this release as well.
“Adding a version of Geographic Calculator that contains FlexLM licensing is a key feature add for our larger customers. This allows IT administrators to better understand how the software is being used within their organization,” stated Kris Berglund, Director of Sales and Marketing for Blue Marble. “Support for EGM96 and batch point file transformation are excellent value adds for a dot release. We think our users that have purchased maintenance will be pleased, since this upgrade is free to all those that have enrolled in our technical support program.”
