Global Mapper Mobile, a field-optimized extension of the desktop version of Global Mapper, is a mobile app available on iOS and Android devices. The app utilizes the GPS capabilities of the mobile device to display the user’s location on a map containing GIS data layers. It also provides a set of powerful field data collection tools for creating points lines and polygons, along with their associated attributes. With raster, vector, and elevation data supported, Global Mapper Mobile is a versatile and robust field data viewing and data collection tool.
The latest release of Global Mapper Mobile introduces a new compass display to show the heading of the device as well as several options for changing the GPS location icon to increase visibility and contrast on the map. With improved accuracy display of the horizontal and vertical coordinates when available and new accuracy attributes added to field-collected vector features, Global Mapper Mobile provides all the available positioning information for field technicians and data managers completing fieldwork with the app.
For those seeking more powerful mobile mapping functionality, the Pro Module, a yearly paid subscription, includes numerous advanced field mapping tools, including support for high-accuracy GPS receivers, extensive streaming data services, advanced projection support, and more. With the release of version 2.2, the Pro Module’s Advanced GPS tool now supports real-time kinematic (RTK) corrections, including a built-in NTRIP client to connect to a correction source in Global Mapper Mobile. RTK information is displayed in the Advanced GPS Location Information even if an external NTRIP client is being used. New feature creation tools added to the version 2.2 Pro Module include the creation of geologic strike and dip features with attributes automatically generated using the device’s magnetic and accelerometer sensors, and options to place point features at the GPS location while simultaneously recording a GPS line or area feature.
