Global Mapper Training Agenda
This intensive course introduces the major components of Global Mapper’s geospatial, imagery, and 3D terrain analysis functionality over the course of two full days. The course incorporates functionality from both the Standard and Pro editions of the software and is intended for users with a basic understanding of the Global Mapper interface.
Users who are new to Global Mapper are encouraged to complete the concise, self-guided Introduction to Global Mapper course prior to the start of the class. This easy-to-follow course has been designed to help new users understand the layout of the software as well as some of its basic features and functions. Completion of this course will ensure that the classroom-based instruction focuses on the practical applications of Global Mapper.
The classroom instruction technique is hands-on, so each attendee should have a Windows-based laptop computer with the latest build of Global Mapper installed. If necessary, temporary Global Mapper Pro licenses will be provided to enable all of the functionality of the software for the duration of the class. All data used during the class will be provided via download prior to the class.
As a means to incorporate as much of Global Mapper’s functionality as possible into the instruction process, attendees will be given the opportunity to follow a series of preconfigured, real-world scenario workflows. While these workflows will typically focus on a specific component of Global Mapper, they will involve the use of a wide variety of tools, such as the Digitizer, Attribute Manager, and Configuration settings.
The class will cover the following:
- Advanced vector (point, line, and polygon) creation tools
- Geospatial analysis of vector features
- Feature attribute management
- Vector visualization and thematic mapping
- Image rectification
- Raster calculation
- Land cover classification
- Object detection
- Raster reclassification
- Raster painting and modification
- Raster vectorization
- Exporting and sharing data
- Terrain creation from lidar or vector data
- Terrain visualization options
- Terrain painting and modification
- Contour generation
- Watershed analysis
- Breakline creation
- Least cost path analysis
- Viewshed/line of sight analysis
- Volume calculation
- Flood simulation
- Solar analysis
- Cut and Fill analysis
- Comparing terrain layers
Additional functionality will be introduced during the class to facilitate the structured workflows.
