Hallowell, Maine – December 18, 2014 — Blue Marble Geographics (bluemarblegeo.com) is pleased to announce the release of the Geographic Calculator 2015. This major release features several new Administrative Tools, support for Geoid Creation in conjunction with Global Mapper v16, and support for Magnetic Declination. Blue Marble’s geospatial data manipulation, visualization and conversion solutions are used worldwide by thousands of GIS analysts at software, oil and gas, mining, civil engineering, surveying, and technology companies, as well as governmental and university organizations.
The Geographic Calculator is “The Global Coordinate Transformation tool” and is available in a 32 or 64 bit version. This highly accurate transformation software includes tools such as DLS (Dominion Land Survey) Land Grid tools, Seismic Survey Conversion tools, “Area of Use” tools for guiding users, and much more. These tools enable users to streamline their workflow and share jobs, projects, and workspaces with other users in different locations. The Geographic Calculator supports a wide range of file formats with support from the largest geodetic parameter database available anywhere.
The Geographic Calculator’s powerful Administrative Tools can be used either in a Single User or Network User context. These tools allow an administrator to set rules that restrict or assist users with making selections from, and edits to, the Geodetic Data Source (geodata.xml). With the release of 2015, administrators have additional tools to choose from including, the ability to use a remote location for the Datasource View file, a new merge tool for maintaining it, and the ability to administratively lock the data path as well as the ability to lock available projection and transformation types. These powerful tools assist administrators and users in creating a successful work environment for highly accurate transformations and efficient workflow.
“The Geographic Calculator is a geomatics toolbox for any GIS professional,” states Blue Marble President Patrick Cunningham. “With the release of 2015 we’ve added a bunch of handy features like the use of Magnetic North, Geoid creation, and even more advanced Administrative Tools.”
2015 also features new Geoid Creation ability in conjunction with Global Mapper v16. Users that own the Geographic Calculator and Global Mapper v16 can now create custom geoid models in Global Mapper and edit the parameters in the Geographic Calculator 2015. Other features include added support for Magnetic Declination. This allows users the option to enable Magnetic Declination under Preferences to reference magnetic north rather than true north. This enhancement is particularly useful when working with offsets for magnetic north corrections.
Additionally, version 2015 includes many new geodetic definitions that have been updated using EPSG version 8.6 to guarantee accuracy. This release also includes many new interface enhancements, including the option to customize the Projection and Transformation interface to streamline workflow. The toolbar at the top of the interface has also been compacted to make room for customized workspace and enhanced docking controls for the Viewer.
