Hallowell, Maine — Blue Marble Geographics (bluemarblegeo.com) is pleased to have been selected to speak on the newly developed Coastal Adaptation to Sea Level Rise Tool (COAST) and low-cost GIS for small municipalities at this year’s Maine Municipal Technology Conference in Augusta, Maine on April 30, 2013. Blue Marble’s geospatial data manipulation, visualization and conversion solutions are used worldwide by thousands of GIS analysts at software, oil and gas, mining, civil engineering, surveying, and technology companies, as well as governmental and university organizations.
Blue Marble President Patrick Cunningham, will be speaking about COAST. The New England Environmental Finance Center (NEEFC) and Blue Marble Geographics have been working in-conjunction to develop COAST, a free GIS-based tool for modeling and estimating losses that are the result of climate change. This modeling tool will allow municipalities to model and estimate these flooding events and publish the data to the public via Google Earth. COAST is based on the Global Mapper platform, a low-cost, Maine based GIS software solution. This talk will discuss some of the challenges faced with this type of initiative, as well as exploring the benefits of this type of specialized GIS implementation.
Blue Marble’s Director of Product Management Sam Knight will speak about low-cost GIS for small municipalities. Often considered beyond the reach of small municipalities, GIS technology is now part of the daily workflow for local government departments of every size. No longer constrained by overly complex software requiring highly skilled technicians, or by expensive acquisition and maintenance costs, municipal officials are learning the value of GIS self-sufficiency. This session will demonstrate Global Mapper, powerful, low-cost GIS software offering that is ideally suited to the challenges of local government operations.
“It’s such a pleasure to be attending one of Maine’s premier technology conferences,” stated Blue Marble Director of Product Management Sam Knight. “We think this is the perfect arena to demonstrate how our Global Mapper technology can be included in applications that ensure public safety, one of the main concerns of local Maine government.”
