LMKR GeoGraphix® Upgrades to Blue Marble’s GeoCalc 6.5 for Maintaining Geospatial Integrity

Gardiner, Maine —April 30, 2012 Blue Marble Geographics (www.bluemarblegeo.com) and LMKR (www.lmkr.com) are excited to announce that the latest version of Blue Marble’s GeoCalc SDK has been embedded into GeoGraphix 2012 Release. The GeoCalc developer toolkit is an industry leading coordinate transformation engine that allows software developers to easily include accurate coordinate transformation routines in a geospatial software application. Trusted for nearly twenty years as the industry standard, GeoCalc performs complex 2D and 3D transformations and can be found under the hood of many of today’s most popular geospatial software applications used by the oil and gas industry.

The latest version of GeoGraphix® is released with version GeoCalc 6.5 which features a new vertical height offset method, with support for various new height models including the Australian Geoid Model of 2009 (AusGeoid09), OSU91A, Netherlands Vertical Model of 2004, Danish Vertical Reference of 1990, Référent Altimétrique France Continentale 2009, Référent Altimétrique Corse 2009, Swedish Geoid Model of 2008, and South African Geoid Model of 2010 (SAGeoid2010). The new vertical height offset method even allows users to create custom offsets from defined Geoids. Additionally, accuracy tags have been added to all datum transformations to assist users with selecting the most appropriate datum shift for a specific transformation.

Other features available in 6.5 include:

  • Deprecation identifiers for all base GeoCalc object types.
  • Read and write GML geodetic objects directly to or from the Blue Marble Datasource.
  • Full support for HTDP Reference Frames and coordinate reference systems.
  • Data Source Audit Trail to track edits to the Geodetic Parameter data source.
  • Support for new string formatted coordinate systems, ATS, British National Grid, and GARS (Global Area Reference System).
  • Updated locking and signing features on Datasource objects.

“GeoGraphix has relied upon GeoCalc for many years, and we’re pleased that the latest version of GeoCalc will be delivered to LMKR GeoGraphix clients. This release contains many of the recommendations suggested to us by geodesists at many of the oil and gas majors and by organizations like the Oil and Gas Producers (OGP) Geomatics Committee and the Americas Petroleum Survey Group (APSG).” stated Kris Berglund, Vice-President of Sales at Blue Marble.

“Maintaining geospatial integrity is ultimately the most important single requirement for our customers. A Marcellus well costs $5-7 million dollars to drill. If the bottom hole location is too close to another party’s lease line, that investment is severely compromised, so being able to rely on accurate locations to base drilling decisions is critical. The inclusion of BlueMarble GeoCalc 6.5 into GeoGraphix provides the highest quality coordinate transformation library available in the market” said Scott Oelfke, GeoGraphix Product Manager.
